At some point of your entrepreneurial activity you realize that you might need a logo, branding, visual identity system, and all those smart words.
You might need a logo design because you have just started your own business or planning to launch it very soon, or you are no longer satisfied with your old brand image, or maybe your business transitioned to a different sphere or changed direction, so you need to adapt your visuals, do redesign, rebrand it all.
What options do you have what concerns logo design? Not so many actually. I came up with 4 solutions:
Ignore all conventions, be a business maverick, and go without any logo at all, go for a no-logo-brand. This approach when managed wisely can be a successful branding strategy, however it will require a highly professional and experienced specialist.
Create a logo on your own. Follow these 10 simple principles, use your creativity, teach yourself how to work with special software, read couple of articles and tutorials, and you might come up with something.
You can buy quite decent ready-made logo template for a reasonable price of about $10 – $30. Browse Envato, Creative Market, Mojo Marketplace, and other web-markets for logo templates. After you pay and download your files, just type in your company name, adjust colours to your liking, and you are ready to go.
Assuming that you are busy running your business, and your business is more or less conventional, I would like to focus on the two latter options: logo template and exclusive custom logo. Let's compare them according to the most important factors: price, time, uniqueness.
Logo templates are more than affordable with prices like $10. Custom logo project will cost starting from $250-500 and higher, depending on the scope of work and a designer/agency rates.
Logo template is almost an instant solution. You pay, download your file(s), open it with a special software (mind that you will need a software like Illustrator and/or Photoshop), type in your company name, do minor adjustments, save in necessary format, and you are ready to go. A custom logo project will definitely require more time to finalize.
Logo templates are not unique, anybody can buy the same logo template. You will however adjust it, so do not worry that someone will have the same logo, maybe just similar. Custom logo project will endow you with an original , specifically for your case crafted visual mark.
So you might already draw some conclusions yourself.
Choose Logo template
If you are tight on a budget, time stressed, not sure exactly what you want and need, I would suggest choosing a logo template. You will try it, see how your business works out, and after all you can always opt for a redesign. Moreover, you should always remember that a logo and visuals solely won't double your revenues.
Opt for Custom logo
If you can afford to invest in a custom logo, able to allocate your time for a logo project, have more or less clear vision for your business needs, your brand already has an audience, you need redesign or rebranding, definitely choose a custom logo project. Mind, however, that logo won't solve your business problems. Logo and visual identity are only components of your brand.
