Virtual reality (VR) cannot leave you indifferent. You can, however, neglect it, but it is already a reality, not even virtual. I would even say it is almost a routine.
Virtual reality will prosper soon
The technology is developing nowadays in exponential growth which allows for successful incarnations of such whims like VR. With the advent of quite powerful computers (have you heard of quantum computing?) and components it is just the matter of time and big biz strategies. I believe VR will flourish very soon, I mean VR gears will be quite affordable and the quality will be very high level.
Practical issues to be solved
There are 3 main problems to be solved in order to create perfect or nearly perfect VR experience:
Big players like Google, Facebook, HTC, valve, Play Station, Samsung recognised the topicality and potential of VR and invest heavily into it. Although many companies assert they anticipate substantial revenues from selling the equipment, I'm not sure if this should be the focus. The winning and lasting strategy of what concerns VR is in supplying and selling content, applying VR in media market. This is what will earn major income, at least in long-run terms.

How to benefit from it
So, what I know for a fact is that big companies invest big money in the technology. Hence the fact, YOU can benefit from it! You can provide services for VR, if you can. VR requires:
impeccable smart coding
superior hardware to eliminate or minimize possible glitches
So, you got the idea. Create some super-duper start-up and sell it to a multi-dollar company, and keep on writing code for VR headsets, and designing sophisticated user interfaces :)
To conclude, although VR technology has various implementations, but the major appeal is going to be for entertainment and media. Understanding of this now can give you some ideas for your business decisions.
By the way, imagine applying VR for branding and corporate identity. How will your logo look like in virtual reality?
